When it comes to cities to visit and spend quality time in, Atlanta is, without a doubt, one of the best. A multitude of attractions ensures that you will never be disappointed. If you’re in Atlanta and looking for a good time, Stone Mountain Park, which is highly respected, is the place to go. Situated over 3200 acres of natural beauty, it is one of the city’s most popular family attractions. The park is a famous tourist destination since it involves lots of activities and a range of outdoor sports. With all of the seasonal activities approaching fast, you won’t want to miss out on any of the fun. But before we can talk about them, let’s explore this park a little further.

Family-friendly fun

Mowgli’s 4D Jungle Adventure

In the spring, you may take part in an interactive event based on a story of The Jungle Book.  The brave Mowgli, raised by wolves, is ready to embark on his most dangerous adventure yet. After learning that his tiger cub buddies are in danger because of traffickers, he must act quickly. Mowgli’s rescue team comprises a black panther, a slow sloth bear, a compassionate elephant, and a fierce tiger. This entire journey allows you to get up close with Mowgli and his pals.

Summit Skyride

This high-speed Swiss cable car is worth the wait, even though it requires a scheduled reservation. After setting off, you’ll climb 825 feet above the surface to the summit of Stone Mountain. You can see Atlanta’s skyline from up to 60 miles away, which is a breathtaking experience. The cable car, however, is closed when the weather is harsh.

Sky Hike

This added experience is undoubtedly worth the wait, despite the limited availability. Consequently, you will reach higher levels on one of the country’s most extensive exploration routes. Since no two hikes are identical in this activity, each path you follow will be different. Moreover, you will also have protection from an elevated safety setup while you trek the quarter-mile of crossings and obstacles.

Scenic Railroad

This 1940s locomotive is just what you need if you’re searching for some quiet time. This full-size train will take you on a five-mile journey through the highlands. Due to the open and spacious cabins, Stone Mountain Park and its magnificent landscape should be easily visible. The tour lasts 25-30 minutes and includes timely arrivals and departure at Crossroads’ Marketplace Depot.

Historic Square

Some of Georgia’s oldest buildings are in this historic area. These ancient structures underwent construction between 1793 and 1875. They are from their original locations to maintain the authenticity and validity of the experience. Due to self-guided tour admission, you are free to explore the fascinating area on your own. Additionally, this attraction also contains a variety of Georgian house décor from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Dinosaur Explore

The journey begins in a time machine that transports you millions of years back in time. As you emerge from the time portal, you’ll be able to see all of the dinosaurs from the Jurassic period. Stone Mountain Park is home to a total of twenty prehistoric dinosaurs. But the most remarkable thing is that these creatures have special effects that allow them to roar and walk around like their real-life predecessors.

Outdoor Activities

There are loads of Stone Mountain attractions that involve the great outdoors. Here are some of the most loved ones.

Stone Mountain Lake Fishing

You are allowed to fish indefinitely as long as you are at the lake from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. The waterways are teeming with bass, bream, catfish, crappie, and carp, making for some great catches. Private boats are also permitted to fish, making them ideal for people seeking ultimate leisure. You may launch your boat directly adjacent to the Evergreen Pavilion’s public boat ramp. On the other hand, any boat with a motor higher than ten horsepower is not permissible on the water.

Walk-Up Trail

This hiking path is open from sunrise to dark unless stated otherwise. Now it’s only a matter of following the yellow-marked line and soaking in the breathtaking scenery. Visitors seeking a little more adventure can take a mile trek to Stone Mountain’s peak. On clear days, you can view up to 60 miles from the summit.

Golf Courses

It may come as a surprise that Stone Mountain Golf Club is only a few minutes from downtown Atlanta. Thanks to the beautiful views of the park and the lake, as well as two championship-level golf courses, you’re sure to have a wonderful evening. This activity stands out since both of the available courses have a unique feel to them.

The Stonemont course offers a classic challenge that will put your strategy and accuracy to the test. However, the Lakemont course features a less challenging layout that is ideal for easygoing golf.

Picnic Areas

Everyone feels fatigued after a long day of outdoor activity. The park’s picnic areas are an excellent place to unwind and replenish your batteries.

Over 200 tables are available at the Studdard Picnic Area, which is across the Marnia Complex. The public grills are shareable for a large number of people. Private grills, on the other hand, are only permitted in the public picnic area.

Except for that, the Triangle Picnic Area is the closest to the Crossroads area. On busy days at the park, this space is also usable for parking.

Historical Areas and Nature

Grist Mill

This ancient mill is about a century old and was once in Ellijay, Georgia. The mill underwent relocation to Stone Mountain Park in 1965 and became one of the most beautiful picnic sites in the region.

Historical and Environmental Education Center

The center’s principal purpose is to teach guests and tourists about the mountain’s fascinating geology for free. You may also visit the gallery, which has interactive displays as well as a cave depicting the mountain’s origin.

Quarry Exhibit

This exhibit highlights the legacy of an influential industry that had a critical role in the establishment of Stone Mountain. People may also learn about the granite mining process while also gaining a clearer picture of how technology has progressed over time. This exhibit pays tribute to the quarrymen who assisted in the construction of the mountain’s roots.

Plans to stay?

After a long day in the park, it’s understandable that anyone would want to go to a warm and welcoming bed. When it comes to lodging, you have two options.

The Evergreen Marriott Resort is the preferred accommodation choice. After spending time here, surrounded by greenery and the natural brightness of the park, you will feel reinvigorated. This pet-friendly resort features large bedrooms, pools, golf courses, and a selection of other family-friendly activities.

Alternatively, you may stay at the Stone Mountain Inn, which offers fantastic accommodations as well as breathtaking views. Anyone on a family vacation can stay in one of the 92 guest rooms. They also have an outdoor pool and traditional southern cuisine, making the whole experience so much better.
