The Philosophy of Michigan CBD is a website where people can find out information about CBD products and education on how to distinguish between quality products and those that are not.

CBD comes from cannabis plants which contain high concentrations of healing compounds known as cannabinoids. Unlike THC, which causes the “high” associated with marijuana, these cannabinoids have been shown to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and combat depression without giving users a buzz or feeling stoned. Although it may sound like something out of The Matrix or Harry Potter (muggles), this plant is a legitimate medicinal treatment that cannot be over prescribed or abused because it doesn’t induce psychoactive effects.

1. What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most important active ingredient in Cannabis sativa and is completely non-psychoactive. Instead, CBD has a calming effect on your body and is used for medicinal purposes such as the treatment of ADHD, inflammation, mood disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, skin diseases and even acne!

2. What are other names for CBD?

Other names for CBD include: Hemp Oil, Hemp Extract, Cannabidiol Extract (or simply Cannabinoids), MCT Oil (Medium Chain Triglycerides) and phytocannabinoids.

3. What are other types of Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds found in Cannabis sativa. There are over 400 different compounds. In addition to CBD, other examples of cannabinoids include THC, CBG and CBC – all of which have very different effects on the human body!

4. How does CBD work in the body?

There is a lot we don’t know about how CBD works. However, we do know that it activates receptors in your body and sends signals to cell receptors that effect health and well-being.

5. What is the cannabinoid receptor system?

The cannabinoid receptor system (CRS) is a family of G-protein coupled receptors that bind and are activated by endogenous cannabinoids such as anandamide (formerly known as endocannabinoids). There are two known types of receptors – CB1 and CB2. There are also many more than that, but most of these have not been fully characterized yet.

6. Why is CBD used for medical purposes?

In addition to its anti-anxiety properties, CBD has also been shown to prevent nausea, reduce pain, inhibit cancer cell growth, and regulate gastrointestinal motility.

7. What type of conditions is CBD used to treat?

Some of the most common conditions that are treated with CBD include: Pain, memory loss and so on.

8. How is CBD used for medical purposes?

CBD oil can be consumed in several ways: taken orally, inhaled or applied topically or absorbed through the mucous membranes. The most common method is oral consumption – either by mixing it in your food (salad dressing, pasta sauce, hot chocolate) or placing a drop on your tongue and swallowing it.

9. Is CBD safe?

CBD has very few side effects and only causes mild digestive distress (usually when consumed orally). It is non-addictive, won’t make you feel high, and will not negatively affect your mental functioning or ability to work or drive.

10. Does CBD show up on a drug test?

A common question people ask is whether CBD will show up on a drug test – the answer is no! In order to fail a drug test, THC must be present in your system (typically 5+ ng/mL). If a person had smoked cannabis recently, it would show up on a drug test because THC metabolites are stored in body fat and can remain detectable for weeks after the last time you smoked. However, CBD does not have psychoactive properties and therefore cannot be detected by a drug test.

11. How is CBD different from THC?

Although CBD and THC are the same chemical compound, they have very different effects. Most people think of THC as the “high” that is produced by cannabis, but this is not true.  THC is not a cannabinoid and does not bind to cannabinoid receptors in your body or brain. Try this test to see what happens when you consume THC: put on a pair of sunglasses and smoke some weed. If you have consumed cannabis recently, it will most likely make you feel intense pain in one eye – that’s due to THC binding to cannabinoid type 1 receptors in the eye. In contrast, CBD binds to different receptors in the brain and body and does not have psychoactive effects.

12. What is a CBD isolate?

CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD available. It is extracted from hemp or marijuana using CO2 (fractional distillation) or ethanol to create a crystalline powder that contains the cannabinoid molecules in their raw and purest form.

13. Why would I want a CBD isolate?

If a person wants an oil with maximum purity, they would seek out a CBD isolate instead of full spectrum extracts. CBDA (which is CBD acid) is created through a process of decarboxylation or carbon dioxide removal which creates a crystalline powder with the same amount of cannabinoids and terpenes as the plant material.

14. How do you take CBD?

There are many ways to ingest CBD including:  – Capsules | Softgel | Drops | Edibles | Oil | Topical to the skin – Vape (sublingually) – Salve (topical dermal) – Tinctures
