Research on women’s health

Research on women’s health is a broad term. There are numerous aspects of women’s health which must be researched including reproductive system, fertility, breast cancer, and diabetes. 

The list goes on but these are all core topics which require research in order to improve the quality of care for okemos women’s health.

Researching these topics can be complicated because it is difficult to design large scale studies that encompass many different areas related to sex and gender specific issues like pregnancy or miscarriage. 

However, there are numerous benefits to doing so because research has shown that recommendations for treatments can be significantly improved by using evidence based science.

One of the most difficult areas to study is pregnancy. Many treatments are not appropriate for pregnant women because they can cause birth defects, prevent miscarriages, or have other negative effects on the baby itself. 

Some of these treatments have been shown to have negative side effects later in life.  

Because these treatments are so individualized there is no specific treatment plan that can be given to every woman who is pregnant. 

Therefore, this has become an area of research for multiple universities across the globe.

1. Why do women have fewer rights than men?

The answer to this is because of all the biases that come from values, beliefs about gender roles, and societal expectations. 

Many people believe that men are more prone to succeed academically so they are provided the right to go to university whereas women are given less academic opportunities because of gender bias. 

Other people believe that women are more prone to being victims of domestic violence so they are provided the right to protection. 

This is a double standard because this protects the victim while it highly discriminates against males who may be victims of domestic violence as well. (WHO)

2. Why don’t we have more women in the government?

The answer to this is because of gender discrimination and sexism. When a woman is elected as a politician she is more scrutinized than men who are also politicians. 

This is because of the stereotypes of women as dainty and soft, so when she speaks it comes as a shock to people. Women then need to be recognized on an individual level and not just recognized on their gender. (Human Rights Watch,2013)

3. How do women become empowered?

Women will become empowered when they are able to receive higher education, jobs, and opportunities. 

Women will also be empowered by being able to access contraception, healthcare, and the right to choose what they want to do. Being able to have control of their own lives will help them become more comfortable with themselves. (WHO)

4. Why are women more prone to being victims of domestic violence?

The answer to this is because of many factors including lack of equality in society, lack of legislation, religious beliefs, and power imbalance in the home. 

The amount of domestic violence varies from one country to another.

There are some countries where it is very rare while there are others where it is quite common. This is why legislation needs to be put in place in order to protect the victim and put an end to all forms of domestic violence no matter what gender they belong too. (WHO)

5. Why aren’t there more young women in high school?

The answer to this is because of gender bias. The standards are set up for men to succeed academically, especially when they are in high school. 

This means that there aren’t enough resources for girls in order to get the education they need in order to make it into university. 

However, it is important not to discriminate against girls because of their gender alone, providing them the same opportunities no matter what their sex is. (Ministry of Gender Equality and Family)

6. Why do more women die from heart disease?

The answer to this is because of gender and age differences. Women live longer than men and this means that they are older when they develop heart disease. 

While men die of heart disease earlier in life it is still important not to discriminate against them by providing them with less access to treatment. (WHO)

7. Why do women get cervical cancer at such a higher rate than men?

The answer to this question is because of the lack of sex education in society, early sexual activity, and lack of knowledge on how to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases. 

Sex education should be provided in order for girls and boys to understand their bodies and sexual health and how it affects their future.
